6,500 walkers shine during 2nd edition of the Zandvoort Light Walk

Abundant enthusiasm among participants and residents during spectacular evening walking tour
On Saturday evening, February 18, after a 3-year wait, Zandvoort was finally dedicated to the 2nd edition of the Zandvoort Light Walk. This experiential evening walking tour took the 6,500 participants along numerous light artworks and surprising light acts via 3 routes. At the finish party, a check with the beautiful amount of € 2,496.50 was presented to KNRM Zandvoort, the charity of the event.
As is often the case, it was windy on the coast, but the weather gods were kind to the walkers, volunteers, and everyone else involved. The 6,500 participants came from far and wide to start their walking experience from the village center through a sea of lights. The 14 km route was by far the most popular with 3,300 participants, 1,700 participants walked the longest route of 18 km, and with 1,500 walkers, the 3 starting groups of the popular 6 km Family Walk were sold out.
Admiring light artworks
The walkers were amazed during the Zandvoort Light Walk. There was plenty to enjoy along the way for young and old(er). Everything passed by: from racing cars and simulated racing effects on the circuit to animal creations and from fire breathers to glowing Disney characters.
Dozens of artists presented their glowing works along the routes. Together, for one evening, they created an open-air museum in Zandvoort through which the thousands of participants, also mostly adorned with light accessories, walked with great admiration.
Participants and residents participate enthusiastically
In addition to all the light artworks that could be admired along the routes, the colorful outfits and glowing decorations of the enthusiastic walkers were also impressive. Many residents of Zandvoort had also decorated their houses and gardens following an appeal. Together with all the participants, they made it a lively party in the seaside resort.\
A great amount for KNRM Zandvoort
One of the many highlights that the walkers encountered on Saturday evening was the decorated lifeboat of KNRM Zandvoort. The boat was beautifully illuminated and displayed on the beach, and was frequently photographed by walkers.
The lifeboat was not just there: KNRM Zandvoort is connected to the Zandvoort Light Walk as its charity. Participants could make a voluntary donation to the local KNRM station during registration. The KNRM helps and rescues people on and near the water in urgent and non-urgent cases, and many walkers gladly support such a good cause! Dick Butter, secretary of Le Champion, was able to present a check with the beautiful amount of € 2,496.50 to Paul Olieslagers of KNRM Zandvoort at the finish party. The KNRM will invest this amount in new materials to continue their work.
