Circuit Zandvoort, spectacular acts and enthusiastic participants make Zandvoort Light Walk a great success

Last Saturday, 5,000 participants stood at the start of the very first edition of the Zandvoort Light Walk organized by sports organization Le Champion. Walkers could choose from 18 km, 14 km, and the 6 km Family Walk. Along the route, there were thirty impressive light art installations and acts. The Zandvoort Light Walk was made possible in collaboration with the Holland Casino Fonds and the municipality of Zandvoort.

All walkers started from the KNRM rescue station in Zandvoort. The starting signal was given by alderman Ellen Verheij, who was present on behalf of the municipality of Zandvoort: "I am very grateful to Le Champion for setting up this event here for Zandvoort. I truly believe it is an addition, because in Zandvoort we want to promote year-round tourism and show that there is also something fantastic to do in winter. The Zandvoort Light Walk is the ultimate example of that." Along the way, walkers encountered the most impressive acts. From life-sized butterflies to a tunnel of light sticks and impressive fire breathers. Many families from Zandvoort took part in the Family Walk. The finish line was at the Kerkplein in Zandvoort. The entrepreneurs around the square had joined forces to create a beautiful finish party for the walkers. The entrepreneurs certainly succeeded in doing so.

The various distances all went across Circuit Zandvoort, a small section over the beach, and through the atmospheric Zandvoort and its surroundings. Due to the weather forecast, it was decided two days before the event to adjust the route. Because of this change, the section on the beach was kept to a minimum, and walkers could enjoy all the light acts because the acts on the beach and in the dunes were relocated. Along the way, depending on their distance, the walkers passed stamp posts at Circuit Zandvoort, Beach Pavilion Thalassa, the water tower, DUNE at the edge of the dunes, and the surprise post at the natural bridge. They fully enjoyed the first edition of the Zandvoort Light Walk.

Circuit Zandvoort
The walkers of the Zandvoort Light Walk had a first. They were the first to walk on the brand-new asphalt of Circuit Zandvoort. There were several impressive acts on the track. The tunnel to the track was filled with colored lights, in the Arie Luyendijk turn Formula 1 cars tore through the bend thanks to a beautiful light show, and sleek, illuminated racing cars were parked in front of the exit.

Next edition
The Zandvoort Light Walk is an annual event and will take place again in the third week of February in the coming years. In 2021, the second edition will take place on Saturday, February 20. Walkers can register from mid-September via www.zandvoortlightwalk.nl.
