Le Champion cancels Groet uit Schoorl Run and Zandvoort Light Walk

Sports organization Le Champion has, in consultation with the Municipality of Bergen and the Municipality of Zandvoort, decided to cancel the Groet uit Schoorl Run on Sunday 13 February and the Zandvoort Light Walk on Saturday 19 February. The organization has reached this decision after the cabinet's latest press conference on Friday 14 January, which showed that no perspective is being offered in the short term regarding the lifting of the ban on events. Le Champion deeply regrets having to make this choice, but given the preparation period, is forced to take its responsibility.

At the Groet uit Schoorl Run, the sports organization also considers it medically irresponsible to organize an event in winter with the chance of low temperatures, without being able to offer a location where everyone can be safely accommodated at 1.5 meters. At the Zandvoort Light Walk, looking at current and expected corona rules, there are too many uncertainties about whether the unique event experience can be offered. However, the organization looks positively towards organizing events after February.

All registered participants will receive a refund of the entry fee, minus the costs incurred by the organization in preparation for the events.

Groet uit Schoorl Run
On Sunday 13 February, during the 43rd edition of the Groet uit Schoorl Run, Schoorl would be filled with 10,000 runners, who could enjoy the breathtaking nature around the course, which goes right through the forest and dune area of Staatsbosbeheer. The Dutch 10 km Championship is also on the program. The running event is nationally known as a fast course, where personal records are broken every year. Le Champion is still investigating whether the Dutch 10 km Championship can take place at another time.

Zandvoort Light Walk
On Saturday 19 February 2022, Zandvoort would be the setting for the Zandvoort Light Walk for the second time. After the successful first edition in 2020, the intention was that walkers could once again enjoy a sea of light artworks and acts in the well-known seaside resort. The beach, the cozy center, and the lightning-fast CM.com Circuit Zandvoort would be visited, while everyone could simultaneously enjoy all the special acts.

2023 Editions
In 2023, the Groet uit Schoorl Run and the Zandvoort Light Walk are scheduled for Sunday 12 and Saturday 18 February. Registration opens mid-September 2022.
