Stay fit in times of corona: 6 tips for you as a walker

And then, suddenly, your walking event is cancelled. The moment you had been preparing for for so long. Our walking motivation cannot handle that at all. We want to rack up kilometers with our walking shoes. But luckily, we can still go outside. We are still allowed to walk! In a time when a large part of us is sitting at home, exercise has never been such a great outlet as it is now. Keeping active is now very important for our immune system. And by continuing to move, you will soon be fit again at the start of one of our events. We have a few great tips for you to get through the corona period fit.
Tip 1: go outside
Start your day with a walk. Get out of bed early and enjoy the peace and quiet and the surroundings. This way, you can start your day with renewed energy. In addition, you can also use your lunch break very well to seek out the fresh air. Give your brain some fresh oxygen again, so that it is ready to go too.
Tip 2: dive into the books
Walking increases your creativity and reduces stress. We assume that reading about walking has the same effect. View here a nice overview of books about walking.
Tip 3: feel zen with yoga
Did you know that yoga is ideal for walkers? Walking is easier when your body is flexible. Because we sit still so much (especially now that a large part of the Netherlands is working from home), our whole body gets stiff. Certain yoga poses relieve tension in your neck, shoulders, pelvic area, chest, heart and lungs. With these exercises, you will do your body a huge favor!
Tip 4: take a different approach, try mindful walking
This period can cause you to experience more stress. Have you ever heard of mindful walking? Stepping away for a moment from that stressed, rushed, and perhaps frustrated feeling. Read here how you can extra enjoy a relaxing walk.
Tip 5: find your inner chef
A healthy snack that you can easily take with you while walking? That doesn't have to be difficult! Dive into the kitchen before your walk to prepare a tasty and healthy snack. Snacks provide slow carbohydrates, proteins, and healthy fats. Especially carbohydrates are important. These can be provided by, for example, a home-baked banana bread, or a muesli or granola bar. With these recipes, you will have your healthy snack ready to pack in your backpack in no time.
